Dave Hughes has held back tears after being told what his wife loves about him.
The comedian has been married to Holly Ife for nearly 20 years, and they have three children together.
The 55-year-old was on Mamamia’s No Filter podcast, talking about how his family was handling his recent political activism.
Holly is a public school teacher, and Dave has recently come out swinging against the Victorian and federal Labor parties and their policies.
While it might have caused a bit of marital contention, Holly had nothing but praise for her husband.
“He is a kind and empathetic person, and he asks interesting questions and genuinely listens to people’s answers,” No Filter host Kate Langbroek said, reading out Holly’s message.
“He’s open to changing his mind, which is a rare trait, and he doesn’t want to exist in an echo chamber, which is also rare.
“I love his commitment to self-improvement. I love the way he finds joy and humour in silliness, and has taught our teenagers to do the same.

“He’s a great dad, very open and honest with the kids about his successes and failures.
“He wants our kids to be kind, respectful, hardworking, and happy, and he models these traits to them every day.
“We argue about politics, but it’s never personal, and he’s interested in all of our opinions. And five minutes after a heated discussion, we’ll all be laughing at something together. That’s very special too.”
Dave was clearly overwhelmed with emotion after the message was read out and jokingly asked if Kate was deliberately trying to make him cry.
Holly showed her dedication to Dave earlier this week after pushing him to jump on a last-minute flight to Canada to honour his commitments at a comedy festival.
Dave arrived at Melbourne Airport for his United Airlines flight, only to find he hadn’t organised a US travel visa, as he was stopping over in San Francisco.
As a result, he was blocked from hopping on his original flight.
Dismayed that he was going to miss out on the trip, he quickly organised a direct route from Australia to Vancouver through Qantas, which could have cost him upwards of $2,500.
“Wife was determined I get there, cos she wants me to succeed, not cos she’s glad to be rid of me for a few days,” he said on social media.
