A final weather report that felt very different
After seven years of early mornings, live crosses and countless weather reports, Tim Davies walked into the Today studio one final time on Friday morning — and what began as a celebration quickly became an emotional farewell.
The longtime weather presenter had announced in late August that he would be leaving Today, bringing an end to a seven-year chapter with the breakfast program. Nine had previously described his departure as the end of a much-loved era for the show.
From the beginning of Friday’s program, it was clear the Today team wanted to make his final morning special.
Tom Steinfort told viewers there would be a celebration “fit for Tim Davies”, while entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins promised they would give him a proper send-off.
And they certainly did.
A morning filled with familiar faces — and a few surprises
Davies was surrounded by Cronulla Sharks cheerleaders, Richard Wilkins and members of the Today team as the celebrations unfolded.
There was even a surprise appearance from A Current Affair host Ally Langdon, who joined Davies aboard the party bus affectionately dubbed “Dickie’s Taxi.”
Langdon asked the question many viewers were probably thinking.
“You’ve been an absolute joy in the morning … are you sure you want to do this?”
Davies answered with a laugh, explaining that after everything he had experienced, he felt ready for something different.
“I have been everywhere. I have done everything, and I’ve done it with the best people,” he said.
“I just don’t know how you top it. I don’t know how you get any better.”
For Davies, leaving was not about turning his back on the years he had spent at Today. It was about making room for another part of life.
“It’s time … to do life a little bit more now,” he said.
He added that he was looking forward to a change, while insisting he was leaving “on such a high.”
Sylvia Jeffreys struggled to hold back the tears
The most emotional moment came when Davies returned to the studio for his final weather report.
The Today crew gathered around him, joined by special guests including members of the Australian Girls’ Choir and Qantas, who presented him with a collection of farewell gifts.
Then came the words that made the significance of the moment impossible to miss.
“You are the most special, my friend. Oh, gosh. We love you the country over,” Sylvia Jeffreys told him as she fought back tears.
For someone who had spent years appearing on Australian television screens as part of people’s morning routines, Davies’ farewell was clearly about more than simply leaving a television job.
It was about saying goodbye to a community he had become part of.

When it was finally time for Davies to address the Today audience for the last time, his words became particularly personal.
“One of the hardest things in life is to be your true, authentic self,” he said.
He then thanked viewers for accepting him exactly as he was and allowing him to be himself every half-hour.
“The craziness that comes along with all of that, and it’s been fun,” Davies said.
He also had a message for the people who had welcomed him into their homes over the years, describing them as the “kind, caring, and cheeky viewers” of Today.
It was a fitting final message from a presenter whose personality had become as familiar to viewers as the weather updates he delivered each morning.
A goodbye arriving at a turning point for Today
Davies’ departure comes at a particularly significant moment for Today.
Just one day before his final farewell, Nine confirmed Sylvia Jeffreys and Tom Steinfort as the program’s new permanent co-hosts for 2027, following the departures of Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo.
Jeffreys, who has been part of the Today family for almost 15 years, said the program had “always felt like home” and that she was honoured to help steer it into a new era alongside Steinfort.
Steinfort, meanwhile, joked that he never expected to be so excited about getting up at 3am, calling it a privilege to be part of such an iconic program.
The changes mean Today will look very different when the new television year begins.
Sarah Abo’s departure adds another emotional layer
The reshuffle follows Sarah Abo’s decision to leave both Today and Nine.
Abo joined Karl Stefanovic as Today co-host in 2023 and subsequently went on maternity leave after the birth of her son, Sonny, in July 2026. She later confirmed that she would not return to Today or the Nine Network.
In her farewell message, Abo described becoming a mother as the beginning of a new chapter and thanked viewers for allowing her into their homes each morning.
That makes Davies’ farewell part of a much bigger period of change for Today — one in which several familiar faces are closing chapters at almost the same time.
But Tim Davies leaves on his own terms
Amid all the changes, Davies’ final words perhaps captured the moment best.
He did not leave with bitterness or regret.
Instead, he looked back on seven years filled with experiences, people and memories that he said would be difficult to top.
