Farmer Wants a Wife viewers have been left unimpressed after Farmer Jason sent a lady home who was seemingly perfect for the country life to instead try his chances with someone who doesn’t meet his criteria of wanting kids.
The 37-year-old dairy farmer from Queensland bid farewell to Kimberly, a 35-year-old steel machine operator, who is also a country girl who shares his values.
But Jason has his sights set on Poppy, a 35-year-old Business Development Manager from Queensland, who has stated that she does not want children.
Jason has been open about wanting to expand his brood, hoping to add to the two children he has from a previous relationship for a total of four offspring.
Poppy is far more interested in a child-free life and travel, and Jason has repeatedly indicated that he was hoping she would ‘change her mind’.
As Kimberly bid Jason a very tearful farewell during Monday’s episode, viewers flooded the comments section on the show’s official Instagram to criticise his choice.
‘Kimberly is the only one on the show who I think would be a real farmer’s wife,’ wrote one person.
Another said a definitive: ‘He made the wrong choice’, while one more wrote: ‘The fact he picks Poppy is cooked’.
Someone else chimed in: ‘Gobsmacked at this choice! Kimberly would have been the perfect match! She wasn’t afraid to milk the cows!’
‘What is this bloke thinking! Wrong choice!’ said one more fan.
Another commented: ‘Poppy lives not far from Jason. She lives rurally and is really into horses. She’s also the more mature lady who I actually think Jason prefers.’
Poppy’s fellow castmates were also troubled by Jason’s potentially misplaced belief that Poppy would ‘change her mind’ about having kids in the future.
‘She’s a grown woman who doesn’t want children; a man is not going to change her mind. I didn’t like that,’ Logan said.
Poppy told Who Magazine that she does not plan to change her mind.
‘I was upfront with Jason from the beginning about not wanting children,’ she said.
‘I applied because I was interested in him as a person and the other qualities he had.
‘I respected that he had his own hopes for the future, and he chose to continue getting to know me, knowing where I stood on this subject.’
Poppy added that she did not know that Jason had made comments about changing her mind until she watched the episode.
‘It’s a big life decision, and I would never want someone to change something so personal about themselves…or expect that of me,’ she said.
