Project Hail Mary

Recommended by Laura Brodnik, Head Of Entertainment and host of The Spill.

Project Hail Mary

Many movie critics are calling it early and labelling Project Hail Mary as one of the best movies of 2026.

And look, if you like space, science, adventure and Ryan Gosling on screen in any capacity, then you’ll probably like it too.

The film, which is based on the 2021 novel of the same name by Andy Weir, opens with Ryland Grace (Gosling) waking up alone in a spaceship after spending decades in an induced coma. He doesn’t remember who he is or how he got there, and soon discovers that both of his colleagues have died in hypersleep.

We are then treated to a flashback of Earth, where Ryland’s origin story slowly emerges. He was working as a middle-school science teacher after his research as a molecular biologist was rejected for being too unbelievable. But as it turns out, his research had actually predicted a terrible but accurate fate for Earth. So he was recruited to the Hail Mary project in order to help save Earth.

Project Hail Mary is a fun watch on the big screen and includes a great performance from the always charming Ryan Gosling. Project Hail Mary is now in cinemas.

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come

Recommended by Chelsea Hui, Entertainment Writer.

Ready or Not 2

Picking up literally seconds after the first film ended, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come finds our favourite reluctant bride, Grace (Samara Weaving), still covered in the blood and debris of the Le Domas estate.

But if you thought blowing up your in-laws was the final boss move, think again. It turns out the Le Domases were just one branch of a global council of elite, devil-worshipping families, and Grace has just accidentally triggered the next level of the game. This time, the stakes have escalated from a family manor to a high-octane hunt involving four rival dynasties, with Grace’s estranged sister, Faith (played by Kathryn Newton), caught in the crossfire.

What makes this sequel so satisfying is that it doesn’t just repeat the hide-and-seek formula. It evolves into a gritty, buddy-comedy survival flick. It’s a rare sequel that manages to expand the world-building (hello, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Elijah Wood joining the chaos) while keeping the scrappy, “eat the rich” spirit that made us fall in love with the original.

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is now in cinemas.

Deadloch season 2

Recommended by Madison Scott, Social Producer.

Deadloch season 2

Following an icy debut season in Tasmania, season two of Deadloch throws detectives Dulcie Collins and Eddie Redcliffe into the sweltering heat and humidity of the Northern Territory to uncover the secrets of Barra Creek.

The duo arrives in Darwin to investigate the death of Eddie’s former partner, Bushy, but the plot takes a detour when the body of a Top End icon is discovered. The detectives are quickly flung into a brand-new investigation that proves just as murky as the local waters.

Kate Box and Madeleine Sami return as the iconic lead pair, joined by returning favourites Nina Oyama (Abby Matsuda) and Alicia Gardiner (Cath York). This season also introduces a fresh ensemble cast, including Luke Hemsworth, Miki Evans, and Leo Lee.

Fans can expect the same witty satirical dialogue, memorable insults, and gripping mystery that gained the first season a global following—this time served with a heavy dose of humidity, crocs, and khaki.

Deadloch 2 is now streaming on Prime Video.
